UPDATE
The Fishery Road traffic calming scheme is finished! What started in 2020 with 74 % of surveyed residents wanting a pedestrian crossing has evolved into a crossing with four sets of speed cushions. Those living nearest the crossing tell us they are delighted: it is easier for drivers to turn out of the side streets; elderly residents can more safely access the hostelries and bus stops; dog walkers report cars are stopping more at the kissing gates and school children can more comfortably cross at both the crossing and at the roundabout.
We have proposed two schemes under DBC’ s new‘ Parking Solutions’ project. The first is to increase the parking by the semi-circular verge on Beechfield Road. The second is to introduce a new parking bay on the roadside of Blackbirds Moor near the Catholic Church to compensate for the loss of parking created by the Electric Vehicle Chargers in the Cowper Road car park. Competing with over 80 applications from across the Borough, our fingers are tightly crossed.
We continue to engage with local campaigns to find a way of keeping Heath Barn in community use and to limit the height of future developments at the railway station. We also look forward to St Johns Road benefiting from a village High Street fund to mitigate against any possible negative impact of increases in parking fees.
We want to pull together these and other themes, along with the traffic strategy we developed in 2021 into a comprehensive community plan that can evidence the need for funded solutions.
