I’ve seen the Paleo Fitness signs up – what’s that about?
We like to call Paleo ‘caveman training’! It’s jumping, crawling, throwing ropes, picking up tyres etc. All stuff that gets you fit without being based directly around boxing. Since we moved gyms down here we’ve really developed the numbers attending the sessions and we are now delivering it as a product to other clubs. We’ve been working on the idea for around 6 months and reinvested the profits from it back into the club. It’s going really well. At the minute it's just something we are doing for our members - the next step is to offer it to the general public.
Thanks for your time Jamie.
Maybe ‘mean streets’ do make better boxers. There are certainly some excellent boxers coming out of Rotherham and out of Millennium Kennedy’s. However, Jamie Kennedy and his team are showing that education, training and hard work are just as good as a route to success – you can change your life through boxing. I’ve seen it. Millennium Kennedy’s are doing it.
*A few days after this interview I was invited down to the gym by Jamie to watch Chad Gaynor and Curtis Woodhouse (English Light Welterweight Champion) sparring in preparation for Chad’s participation in Prizefighter. After 3 rounds, Jamie then did 3 rounds with Chad. The sparring finished with Chad & Curtis doing a final 3.
Chad Gaynor is 21 and has an undefeated professional record and has a real chance of winning Prizefighter. Jamie Kennedy is 42 and has never fought a professional bout. How may trainers do that for their fighters?
