Please take a few minutes to go watch the video and share it to as many people possible. Just a couple of more people knowing about this situation can make a difference to their life. If you want to take a step forward, please go onto the pathfinders site and donate anything to help!
Even with everything going on, they are able to keep a smile on their face and be grateful for any help given.
Everyone deserves a chance in Hong Kong!
How do you contribute to this project?
I was one of the five girls who went to meet the migrant domestic
workers which allowed me to write a meaningful piece and then add
a unique emotion to the dance piece. This is because I was given the
chance to make my own opinion on the women by meeting them
instead of keeping a biased opinion from the case studies we
researched.
Therefore, my overall contribution the project was being able to meet these women and bring forth their story to as many people as possible. I shared their story to LPC and on social media to make sure that this message is spread because not many of us know about this and this is extremely important as it happens in Hong Kong.
Do you have any further plans for helping the Domestic mothers? I heard that you are making a club in the college to spread the awareness about them.
I will definitely be looking through the pathfinder’s website to see what more I can do for them. There is already a domestic helper’s QC but I would love to be able to find out if I can bring a group of people to pathfinders to meet the woman like I did. This is an important aspect of working with these women, because when you meet them you are given a whole other perspective. This is because you are shown how the woman are in person instead of what you have been told, as just helpers in a terrible and depressing situation. I started off by reading case studies which gave a very depressing tone to the situation, so when I was going to go meet them, in my mind I thought they would be emotionally sad and not able to open up to me. Instead they immediately spoke to me and were eager to dance with me. This opened up the whole situation to me. That these women are actual human beings going through a terrible time in their life, and not just people that clean a house, keep care of children etc.
Do you think because you are advocating could potentially turn into the main of a new QC?
I do not know much about how the domestic helper QC works but all I know is that they do their best to ensure that the domestic migrant mothers know their own rights in Hong Kong. This is extremely important as many domestic workers do not understand their rights between themselves and their employers and how their visa works in Hong Kong.
Overall I do hope that they use this video to spread the word and maybe look into using different forms of work or art to convey the mother’s message around campus and Hong Kong.
