Mitchell | Amby | Mungallala Opening of Johnny’s Place On what would have been Johnny’s 90th birthday the gates were officially opened to a wonderful tribute to an outstanding local gentleman, well known and loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him and his horses. Johnny Murray and his horse Minnie were iconic figures as they walked the streets of Mitchell, chatting and entertaining all and sundry with Minnie’s tricks and John’s immense local knowledge. Following his untimely death late in 2018 the community decided there should be a lasting memorial to this special man and true Mitchell Legend. Booringa Action Group through donations from the community and John’s family brought the idea to life and on August 13, 2019 Johnny’s Place was officially opened. It is a place to sit, ponder, chat, be a part of the community and remember John.
