Surat Races a success
When Surat Diggers’ Race Club advertised a
massive amount of prize-money for the
annual running of the Surat Diggers’ VJ Butler
Memorial Cup, on Saturday, 21 September
2019 at the Warroo Sporting Complex, Surat,
odds-on it was going to be a special day.
And a special day it was – made even more
spectacular with the opening of the new
Admin, Jockeys, and Stewards building
officiated by Minister for Local Government,
Racing and Multicultural Affairs, The Hon
Stirling Hinchliffe and Club President, Donna
Stewart, in front of a crowd of more than 400
including Club Patron Ray White, Director
General Mr Warwick Agnew, Racing Advisor
to the Minister, Mr Ben Marcywk, and Racing
Queensland’s General Manager, Simon Stout.
Minister Hinchliffe said “Surat Diggers’ Race
Club put on a great race day on Saturday!”
“I was proud to open their new Admin, Jockey
and Stewart’s building with the club President
Donna Stewart,” said the Minister
“Congrats to winner of the Surat Diggers
Cup ‘Immutable’, Jockey Terry Treichel and
Trainer Les Baker.”
Kirsten Kirkbride’s instagram Photo Booth
was a hit on the day, as was the Fashions on
the Field competition and free children’s
activities. Photos can be found on the Surat
Diggers Race Club Facebook page.
Racegoers also thoroughly enjoyed the
Charity luncheon, Wendy’s delicious pies, and
ice-cream desserts from Bessie’s Ice-Cream
Bus before dancing the night away with DJ
Johnny Mac. Pat on the back, Surat - thanks
to all named and unnamed contributors for the
success and joy of a truly fantastic day - see
you next September!
