Surat area Surat Races a success When Surat Diggers’ Race Club advertised a massive amount of prize-money for the annual running of the Surat Diggers’ VJ Butler Memorial Cup, on Saturday, 21 September 2019 at the Warroo Sporting Complex, Surat, odds-on it was going to be a special day. And a special day it was – made even more spectacular with the opening of the new Admin, Jockeys, and Stewards building officiated by Minister for Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs, The Hon Stirling Hinchliffe and Club President, Donna Stewart, in front of a crowd of more than 400 including Club Patron Ray White, Director General Mr Warwick Agnew, Racing Advisor to the Minister, Mr Ben Marcywk, and Racing Queensland’s General Manager, Simon Stout. Minister Hinchliffe said “Surat Diggers’ Race Club put on a great race day on Saturday!” “I was proud to open their new Admin, Jockey and Stewart’s building with the club President Donna Stewart,” said the Minister “Congrats to winner of the Surat Diggers Cup ‘Immutable’, Jockey Terry Treichel and Trainer Les Baker.” Kirsten Kirkbride’s instagram Photo Booth was a hit on the day, as was the Fashions on the Field competition and free children’s activities. Racegoers also thoroughly enjoyed the Charity luncheon, Wendy’s delicious pies, and ice-cream desserts from Bessie’s Ice-Cream Bus before dancing the night away with DJ Johnny Mac.
