New Year, new students &
teachers for Mitchell!

up to the Annual Australia Day Awards.
Deputy Mayor Jan Chambers conducted this
year’s ceremony, with Aunty Lynette Nixon
opening proceedings with the Welcome to
Country.
“I would like to congratulate everyone who
was nominated for an Australia Day Award,”
said Cr Chambers.
“Our community is blessed with a large
number of hard working people who are
committed to the goals and ideals of our
country.
“These awards focus attention on Australian
characteristics and values we respect; a fair
go, a respect for diversity, a genuine concern
for our people and a love of sport,” said Cr
Chambers.

As the ceremony ended inside, guests
flowed back onto the deck for the
cutting of the Australia Day cake by
Cr Chambers and Aunty Lynette.

by Maggie’s lovely voice and relaxed
setting. Then as the morning warmed

Mitchell State School kicked of 2019 with
eleven new prep students and a newly
appointed Principal, Cass Ahearn.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead
a school with such a rich tradition of
community!” said Principal Ahearn.
“I have worked with a variety of schools
around the south west, most recently working
as Principal at Morven State School in a
teaching principal role.
“I am excited and eager to bring my skills as
an educational leader to Mitchell State School
and work with families and the community to
ensure the success of our school and
community,” said the Principal.
St Patrick’s School is very excited to
welcome Miss Rebecca Smith (Year 4-6
teacher) and new prep student Lexi Whittaker
to the school community.

school and I’m sure
there were a lot of
parents happy to see
school start back,”
said Principal Zoe.
“A positive attitude to
schooling really has a
huge impact on
student achievement
and its an important responsibility of teachers
and parents to cultivate this positive attitude.”

Leadership Induction ceremony was held with
