Australia was lucky enough to be designated the Country of Honour at the 2019 Marrakech International Film Festival which ran from November 29 to December 7, 2019. “Attending Marrakech Film Festival has certainly been a highlight of my time in Morocco and I was so proud to be Australian and sharing our film culture and beautiful landscapes with Moroccans”, said Jane. A delegation of 22 Australian actors and film industry identities made the trip to Marrakech for the Festival, as did the Australian Ambassador, Her Excellency Berenice Owen- Jones and Embassy staff including Jane. As part of her role as Events Officer at the Embassy, Jane was able to walk the red carpet alongside (well, a few steps behind) the likes of Ben Mendelsohn, Jack Thompson, Gillian Armstrong and Abbie Cornish - to name a few! “It was certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity and just shows that, young people from Mitchell or any country town aren’t out of place even on the red carpet on the opposite side of the world,” she said. Jane has been living in Morocco since late April when she took up the opportunity to intern at the Australian Embassy in the capital Rabat. After her first three month contract, she spent the next two months visiting northern France and Rome before returning to take up a position as Events Officer with the Embassy again. “Morocco is a fantastic country, the 3. people are very warm and there is the most beautiful and diverse countryside, I’d encourage anyone to visit if you have the chance!” said Jane.
