Looking back at this past decade, Australia has had five different Prime Minister’s, our State Government has changed from Labor, to LNP and back again and Queensland completed a record-8 year winning streak in the State of Origin. The Maranoa has experienced many challenges, from the mining industry boom and bust, to devastating floods and now the ongoing drought. That being said, our communities continue to show resilience and tremendous spirit in the face of adversity. This year is a testament to that and has been full of exciting highlights. The Cobb & Co Festival took the region by storm in August, the Booringa Fire and Water Festival made a successful a come-back in September and our local Shows triumphed in May, in spite of the difficult season. The Container Exchange Scheme made its long awaited debut last year and has received brilliant support across the region, meanwhile Noonga Hall celebrated its 90th anniversary in February. Mitchell, Injune, Surat and of course Roma hosted brilliant race days across the year and it seems these will continue, stronger than ever in this new decade. It is difficult to predict our political, economic or social futures but one thing we can be sure of going forward is that come what may the Maranoa community will continue to work together and support each other.
