BSLA Flower Show Winner OCT. 28–30 ZE N A ss o ciat e s wi n s BS L A A wa rd a t 2014 B os t on Fl o we r a n d G a rd e n Show The BSLA jury selected the garden installation by ZEN Associates as the winner of the BSLA Award for the 2014 Boston Flower and Garden Show. Each year BSLA is invited to jury and present an award “for an exhibit of excellence in landscape architecture which conveys the underlying design principles to the public.” “Our garden is representative of the romantic courtyards and secret gardens found throughout the old neighborhoods of Boston. These small spaces, defined by walls and windows, challenge the designer to create a garden which will be seen from many directions, but still offers owners a place for retreat. Here, the colorful walls provide a background for the plants and boulders, the windows control and offer glimpses into the private spaces and the plants soften the architecture and provide personal scale and richness. In addition we demonstrate that different garden styles, like classic and modern or eastern and western, can come together on their own terms. This spring as you tour the streets of Boston you might imagine that behind those urns and window boxes lies a Japanese or French garden filled with the sound of water and lush plantings perfect for entertaining, reading, and gardening.” Special thanks to New England Bamboo, Berries Greenhouse, Casa Home, and Beacon Hill Garden Club. 44 BSLA New England’s largest building industry event.
