The Urban Landscape Program at
Northeastern University was founded in 2012
within the College of Arts, Media and Design.
The program offers flexible degree options at
the undergraduate and graduate level. At the
undergraduate level, the five-year Bachelor
of Landscape Architecture (BLA) includes two
sixth-month co-ops plus a semester of study
in Berlin. (A four-year, two-co-op option is
also under development; the BLA degree will
be submitted for accreditation candidacy
next year.) Northeastern’s BLA offers a
comprehensive professional curriculum taught
by full-time faculty who bring robust research
and professional practice experience into the
classroom. Courses revolve around design
studio, landscape technology, implementation
and visualization workshops, landscape history
and current issues in practice. When asked
why they love Northeastern, students often say
the semester of living and learning abroad
in Berlin, plus the chance to gain valuable
professional experiences through the coop program, set it apart. With placements
ranging from local, signature design practices
to global, mutli-disciplinary firms, co-ops
expose students to leading design, planning,
advocacy and policy role models. When
students return to campus, that on-the-job,
in-the-world learning is actively integrated into
their academic activities.
Other options for undergraduates at
Northeastern include a Minor in Urban
Landscape Studies, which focuses on
