Clarity, Specificity, and Consistency is very important when speaking to Men. One they are programmed to tune us out (ask any mother of sons), and Two they usually think when we talk they are in trouble. (ask any mother of sons) So you have to be direct, and to the point, concisely.

“I don’t need a man…” But wait, there’s more. Why don’t you need a man ladies? Maybe you don’t need a man to pay your bills. Maybe you don’t need a man to “protect” you. Maybe you don’t need a man to make you feel accomplished.

But don’t you need a man to make you feel empowered? Don’t you need a good man to make you feel safe? Not from burglars or financial ruin. But from your own indecisiveness, or your own quick judgments. Don’t you need a partner to bounce ideas off of and celebrate successes with? Don’t you need a partner who is going to remind you of how awesome you are and also what your responsibilities are? Don’t you want a man that can check you, without offending you, and that can check in on you when you’re not feeling well? Don’t you need a man to care? Don’t you need a man to love?

The Common Sense Association says that to say this: “Stop saying you don’t need a man, especially if you want one. Be clear about what a man can bring to your life. Have that conversation with yourself before attempting to have it with anyone else.”
