Terri: It was just right there for me. As I was doing my research and realizing there was really nothing out there for Black children that really upheld them and empowered them in customizable books, outside of just dropping their name in a bland generic story. I realized that Representation Is So Important and it automatically just clicked. RISI! I thought it sounded good. I said, let’s do that. I decided to be the first customizable hardcover children’s book series that centered and celebrated Black children by actually drawing a cartoon likeness of them into the pages and turning them into the star of their very own book.
