BOSS OF THE MONTH
WOMEN IN RADIO FOUNDER
MEAGHAN TAYLOR
In this issue, our Boss of the Month is media maven Meaghan Taylor. Taylor only 26 years old, is already a radio vet.
Originally, Taylor thought she would go the TV route. After finding out the freshmen at FAMU weren’t allowed on air at the college TV station, she tried her luck at radio and that’s where she found her purpose. Now, she’s worked in markets in Florida and Alabama and is currently teaching radio at Miami’s Connecticut School of Broadcasting.
About three years into her professional radio career Taylor decided to start Women in Radio, an empowerment organization for women in the radio business. After reflecting on the lack of mentoring she had received from women in the industry when she started out, she was inspired to build a network of women who currently and aspire to work in radio. She wanted to create a safe place where one could discuss not only the ins and outs of what goes on in the industry in general, but also for women specifically. This organization isn’t just for on-air personalities; it includes programmers, board operators, engineers, promotions, sales, producers, traffic, administrative assistants, and interns. Women in Radio allows her to reach back to those just starting out, as well as receive guidance from those who are more experienced than her.
