The “waste of time” insinuates that the man was just taking and not giving to the relationship. That is an unfair statement especially if it is untrue. It also devaluates his thought process and how seriously he takes marriage and relationships. It immediately says "she lost and he won." It also discounts them as a couple and what they may have learned and gained from each other during that time. If you have a true relationship that was entered into wisely, whether marriage is the end result or not it should not be summed up as a waste of time.
