The birth of my first child accelerated my entrance into the world of Djing. I had time away from the job and was able to think about what really mattered to me. My daughter brought about a wonderful cleansing change and it was then that I decided I could make our family stronger economically while I pursed something I had not been this passionate about in years.

BOSSY!: Music isn’t your only creative endeavor though..how do you make the leap from screenwriting to writing to music?

Shelly Rockstar: For creatives it probably doesn't seem like such a leap. We have the reputation of being all over the place. The truth is however, I’m a born multi-tasker. It could be my zodiac sign or my upbringing. I haven’t quite figured it out yet. But I like having lots of irons in the fire. DJing is just one of many business ventures. I was taught at a young age that you have to cultivate all of your talents, wear many hats and do different jobs in order to end up making a living doing something you love. To draw a more direct correlation, as managing partner of a creative development company I lead brainstorming sessions that involve plotting out scenes and building storylines. As a Open Format DJ, my jobs is quite similar. I have to build a narrative based on the musical tastes of the client. I create stories through music, I’m not just flipping records on back to back to back with no type of connectivity. People respond to being taken on a journey.

BOSSY!: So have you moved on from writing or is it possible to follow your passion down more than one path?
