Ironically six months after the death of her son while trying to put the pieces of her life back together, Roberta got news that the girlfriend of her late son had been in an identical accident, was also projected from the backseat, and was now paralyzed. “It brought me to my knees. Here I was mourning the lost of my son, still trying to keep it together at work, and I get this news.” Roberta says.

It’s no secret that at one time or another life will force you to calm down, declutter your life, and do what you were purposed to do. But how do we do that in the midst of such pain? Roberta’s remedy… “I prayed,” she says. “For me even though I knew people meant well, even their encouraging words didn’t help. I needed to seek God for myself. And once I did I got clarity.”

And out of that, Roberta founded the “Buckle Up and Pump Your Breaks Foundation.” We have a simple mission: To have teens to take the pledge to Buckle Up and Pump their brakes and drive the speed limits because it could save their life. And not to just do it for them, but also do it for your passengers.” “Eventually, I want it to be a place where families in need can come to get resources to help them care for loved ones who have been in similar accidents.”

Roberta says. “This foundation was started out of pain and is now my passion and purpose for living. There is a reason this happened to me. It happened to me because God considered me strong enough to handle it and wise enough to do something about it.”
