06 Expansion of Underground Services Location and Utilities Mapping Capacity in Gauteng Ground Penetrating Radar or GPR: used for locating all utilities including non-metallic pipes and cables, such as fibre optic lines or UPVC water pipes Bosch Munitech’s vision is to become the pre-eminent and preferred service provider for underground services location (USL) and utility mapping projects, not just in South Africa, but also across our borders into sub-Saharan Africa. We recognise that this can only be achieved by creating and maintaining highly skilled and well-resourced technical capacity in line with the Bosch core values of technical excellence and the development of people. Active in the utility mapping sector in Gauteng since August 2011, we established our first permanent USL team, led by Shoes Dlani, in Johannesburg in September 2012. This capacity was further augmented in July 2013 with the appointments of Refilwe Moadi and JC Slater, who brought in-house survey and draughting capacities respectively, to the team. L to R: Marno Mynhardt (Field Technician), Luke Crouch (Field Technician), JC Slater (Draftsman), Refilwe Moadi (Survey Technician), Hurn Merrington (Regional Manager, Gauteng). The recent appointment of Hurn Merrington as Regional Manager: USL and LD, is a particularly exciting development for Bosch Munitech as it not only brings Hurn’s formidable knowledge and skills into the company, but also cements underground services location and utility mapping as one of the core services offered from our Johannesburg office. Typical USL projects conducted out of the Johannesburg office include servitude surveys for bulk water pipe route design; pump station underground pipe route identification and utilities location and mapping for construction activities.
