One of the most common sources of new words in English is the process
simply labeled borrowing, that is, the taking over of words from other
languages. (Technically, it’s more than just borrowing because English
doesn’t give them back.)
Borrowing: is the process of actually borrowing words from foreign
languages.
The English language has been borrowing words from nearly a hundred
languages in the last hundred year .
The other way round, many countries also have taken many English words
into their dictionaries, such as the well-known ok internet .
Most of the loan words are nouns, only some of them are verbs or adjectives.
In linguistics, borrowing (also known as lexical borrowing) is the process by
which a word from one language is adapted for use in another. The word that
is borrowed is called a borrowing, a borrowed word, or a loanword.
Present-day English is also a major donor language--the leading source of
borrowings for many other languages.
