General advice
• Bring any walking aids from home and follow the advice
provided by therapists, nursing and medical staff.
• Wear non slip socks, slippers or shoes that fit well – socks alone
are slippery.
• Wear clothes that are not too long or too loose.
• Take your time when standing or getting out of bed.
• At night, turn on the light before you get out of bed, and turn on
the light in the toilet.
• Take extra care on wet or slippery floors .
• Watch out for any clutter or obstacles in your way, and ask one
or our team to move them.
• Do not use hospital furniture for support as it may not support
you.
How can my friends and family help?
They can:
• Tell us if you have had any falls in the past.
• Put back anything that they may have moved during their visit.
• Minimise clutter by taking any unnecessary personal items
home.
