Now you see it
now you don’t

After months of work, demolition of the Santon
tower, the old Whakatāne Hospital tower is
complete.
The tower demolition works began in late 2015. It was a slow
process as the concrete tower had to be sliced into sections and
taken down bit by bit.
The refurbishment works has commenced. In coming weeks
that will see the temporary shipping container corridor removed.
Ultimately there will be a new corridor linking the main reception
area to the old part of the hospital.
A new roof will go on the two storey building which is set to
house paediatricians offices, an orderlies lounge and the mail
room. There will also be some landscaping works. The building is
expected to be reopened in April 2017.
