Strengthening our teams and services Staff from Community Health 4 Kids (CH4K) and Toi Te Ora Public Health Service (Toi Te Ora) recently came together to identify key opportunities to strengthen the synergies across these two teams to improve services to the community. “There’s a lot of cross-over in our work, for example, both of our services work in schools across the region, with Toi Te Ora’s Health Promoting Schools programme and school visits by public health nurses,” says Sharon Muru, Health Improvement Manager for Toi Te Ora. “We identified many good ideas for us to work more closely together,” says Sharon. Some of these include better sharing of information across both services, making the best use of our combined resources, planning together, and ensuring new staff learn quickly about the complementary roles and shared approaches that our services have to improve the health in a community. Toi Te Ora’s Health Improvement Manager Sharon Kennedy-Muru and Health Improvement Advisor’s Sarah Stevenson and Dana Thomson explore the ear van with CH4K Community Ear Nurse’s Donna Garner and Rena Fredrickson (at rear). “The two services will develop and maintain a relationship based on the shared CARE principles and linkages within work streams which will help to strengthen networks and increase collaboration,” says Martin Steinmann, Manager for CH4K. “We are all passionate about improving the health of whānau and tamariki across the Bay of Plenty. Building strong collegial relationships across disciplines and services helps us achieve this,” says Sharon.
