Good to Great Strategy The basis of the strategy focuses on reducing the Māori Health Plan indicators which have the greatest disparity between non-Māori and Māori. There has been a passion to doing all activities better; and working collectively to improve these disparities. Improving Māori health is everyone’s responsibility and for everyone’s best interests. We have continued to address the broader determinants of health by leveraging the BOPDHB’s core business, through the Māori Health Planning and Funding Team. Our focus over the year has been the monitoring of outcomes on the following Good to Great activities: 1. Health Equity Performance Focusing on the Māori Health Plan indicators. 2. Quality Service Improvement Focus on PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) and Institute of Healthcare Improvement execution on all improvement activities. 3. Accelerate reducing Māori disparities by increasing our focus on collective responsibility (partnering with Māori)  Greater ownership  Measuring and monitoring for equity  Contracting for equity. Engaging Effectively with Māori - Professional Development Programme It is everyone's responsibility to create an environment that improves whānau care and outcomes. The “Engaging Effectively with Māori” training course has been endorsed by the Māori Health Rūnanga and the Board as a first step in growing staff understanding of cultural competence and cultural safety in the health sector. CARE values - He Pou Oranga Tangata Whenua The Māori Health Rūnanga has endorsed the revised CARE Values and the use of Manaakitanga to be incorporated as part the values.
