Second prize and ‘People’s Choice award’ winner was Radiology Department Registered Nurse Jason Money. Jason presented an innovative quality improvement process initiated by the radiology and cardiology teams to change the practice of inserting catheters for Cardiac Catheterisation procedure via the femoral artery to the radial artery. The goal of this initiative was to find a better way to do the procedure that would reduce complication and increase patient and staff satisfaction. Sheree Furness, Quality and Patient Safety Coordinator for Anaesthesia and Surgical services, worked with a team including property services carpenter Simon Wagner and nursing staff to design and develop a portable write-up trolley for use at patients bedsides.
