Merce shares tips for caregivers in new book KIMBOLTON – Cristie Merce loves a good story and loves to write. She has written more than 30 books, but “Th e Woes and Wisdom of Eldercare: An Educational Learning Guide,” is her fi rst to be pub- lished. It is her hope that her experi- ences will help families and their loved ones, as well as employers, through the eldercare journey. “It is my hope that by sharing my experiences and wisdom – the do’s and don’ts, and the try and don’t try advice in this learning guide – the journey shared with your loved one will be easier,” Merce said. “I’m not an expert. I just want to share what I know and what I have learned from others.” Merce was an eldercare giver for more than 28 years. She is not a nurse and doesn’t have a college degree. She is writing this guide from her years of hands-on experience, and asks that you please consult a medical professional if you question any of the advice shared in this learning guide. “I’m not an expert,” she said. “I just want to share what I know and what I have learned from others. Of course, each journey will be diff erent. Calm Ohio Department of Aging seeks nominations for statewide Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and patience will ease your load. Don’t’ be afraid to ask for help. You should not be expected to go through this alone. You have to take care of yourself too.” Books are $20 and can be mailed out for an additional $5 fee. Merce also is available for workshops. She can be reached by mail at 58547 TR 109, Kimbolton, OH 43749 or by phone at 740-545-7377. “Please share this guide with anyone what you know who may be facing a care giving journey of their own,” Merce said. Merce is a member of the Coshocton Write-on-Writers Guild and Th e Ohio Storytelling Network. She is a former member of the Coshocton Business and Professional Women, and Th e Progres- sive Valley Grange. Merce attends Isleta United Methodist Church in Newcom- erstown, where she regularly tells the children’s ministry stories. Married since 1974, she and her husband have three sons, two daughter-in-laws and a grand- daughter.
