REPORT Disappointments of 2015 We list down the 5 damp squibs of the year T here are certain films that intrigue us from their inception. The star cast, the director who’s helming a project after his National Award win or maybe just another South remake… there are several reasons for a movie to be on our hitlist, but few succeed while the rest disappoint. This year, we had high expectations from some movies, but they tanked miserably. Take a look… Tevar Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha’s masala entertainer didn’t click with the viewers and neither did their chemistry. This remake of Telugu film Okkadu didn’t have the same effect on the box-office, which other remakes do, with films like Wanted and Singham being shining examples. Looks like being Superman or a Salman ka fan didn’t do Arjun much good. Hamari Adhuri Kahani Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao… three powerhouse performers and a storyline that assured us that this one will be a love story to watch out for. But sadly, Mohit Suri couldn’t handle this sublime story well enough and even the good music couldn’t help this sinking ship, which clearly belongs in the jaded '60s. Katti Batti After seeing her as Rani (Queen) and Datto (Tanu Weds Manu Returns), audiences had high expectations from Kangana Ranaut and flocked to the cinema halls to watch this quirky rom-com. Imran Khan’s lover boy stint would’ve been quite a draw too, if only Nikhil Advani's attempt to revive his Kal Ho Naa Ho magic hadn’t failed miserably. Calendar Girls Madhur Bhandarkar’s films normally give viewers a much needed reality check, but this concoction of his previous films like Heroine, Fashion and Page 3 proved to be a hard one to gulp down, making it a cocktail no one was interested in trying. Shaandaar This film had it all… right from the fresh pairing of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to the beautiful locales, some of the biggest names backing it and Vikas Bahl directing it. But this film couldn’t stand true to its title. The script turned out to be weaker than our knees when we see Shahid on a bike or Alia in her pink bikini. And the great performances by Alia, Shahid and Pankaj Kapur were just as wasted as that psychotropics induced scene in Shaandaar. 16 | BOOM
