Try These 7 Tips To
Control Your Temper
At Work
N
o matter how great your work environment may
be, things need not always be “cool” for you.
There will be days when your client might send
a rude mail or your colleague might commit a mistake
that can cost you your job. In situations like these, it’s
only natural for you to lose your cool. At times your colleagues will leave no stone unturned in making fun of
you or irritating you constantly. In such situations, the
first thing that might strike your mind would be to give
them a fitting response and let them know that you can’t
be fiddled around with. But in the process, you will end
up ruining your reputation and give an impression that
you can’t handle situations properly. Anger is not a solution to your problems; rather it only aggravates it. Moreover, if you want to keep your job, it’s important to learn
how to control your temper.
1. Always Reason With The Parties Involved
Be it your colleague, client or boss, losing your cool
won’t help you solve your problem. Instead, stay calm
and talk to them in your normal tone. If you raise your
voice, the other person would automatically raise his
voice. But seeing you calm, he might lower his voice as
well and comprehend the situation in a better manner.
2. Keep Your Ego Aside
Remember that you are at work and whatever the argument is about, it’s solely professional. So don’t bring
your ego in between and ruin the equation. We don’t
suggest that you stay silent and listen to all of it, but before answering them back, place yourself in their shoes.
Instead of any personal attacks, discuss the issues you
have with them.
3. Think About The Positive Aspects
It’s ok to get frustrated when things don’t work as per
your plan. Don’t get excited and rush into your boss’
cabin. Instead, stop and think about the positive aspects
of this situation. Suppose you have an urgent meeting
and your colleague is running late, he is not even answering your calls; don’t get agitated. Think positively
that now you have more time to prepare for this
meeting.
4. Walk Away From That Situation
No one except you can analyse your building anger; so if you feel that you won’t be able to control it, bail out from that situation. Tell them calmly
that you are not in a right frame of mind to discuss
things and would want to take this conversation
forward at some other time. This way you will get
some time to think this through without hurting
anyone’s sentiments.
5. Take A Break To Vent Out Your Anger
Alone
Let’s be honest, no one can work with an angry or
irritated mind. You need someone or something
to vent your anger on. Take some break from
your work and go have a drink or take a walk outside.
If you are still angry, then face a mirror and shout your
heart out or curse whoever you want to. Once your temper is calmed, get back to work and try to sort the issue.
6. Take Some Help From Humour
Humour is the best way you can control your anger. You
can watch any funny video, memes or go throu
