Heckler & Koch SP5K
Pistol
F
inally, fans of the legendary MP5 submachine gun
can rejoice. Heckler & Koch has just released a
semiautomatic civilian version of the popular MP5
to the United States. The new SP5K (SP for “sporting
pistol”) retains several notable features of the MP5. Of
course, the pistol is chambered in the ubiquitous 9mm
cartridge and comes with two 30-round magazines. If
you live in capacity-restricted states, there is an option
for two 10-round magazines to be included with the gun.
The front diopter sight and the rear adjustable sight are
the same as those found on the select-fire MP5 sub gun.
In addition, there is an included Picatinny rail running
across the top of the gun, allowing shooters to mount the
optic of their choice. The gun also runs off the same delayed roller-lock blowback bolt system found on the MP5.
A fluted chamber is included to facilitate “lubrication” by
propellant gases in the extraction of spent rounds. The
SP5K features an ambidextrous selector lever with pictographic symbols for “fire” and “safe.” The gun features
a magazine release on the right side of the receiver. The
SP5K is slightly longer than the military MP5 due to a
unique handguard that brings its overall length to about
14 inches. The overall height is 8.6 inches and width is
2.4 inches. The barrel length is just over 4.53 inches.
Overall weight of the gun, unloaded, is 4.2 pounds, while
the trigger pull weight measures anywhere from 6.7-10
pounds, according to Heckler & Koch. The SP5K also
comes with a single-point sling mount at the rear of the
receiver and is shipped in a hard shell case with custom
cutouts for the gun, extra magazine, sight tool and other
accessories. The suggested retail price for the SP5K
with two magazines is $2,699.
