IN-FOCUS
WELCOME TO BOOKPLATE!
Come in and enjoy our celebration of Spring.
For me Spring time is a celebration of
new beginnings and at BOOKPLATE
we’ve got a lot to celebrate!
We don’t just have a new look, but
a new menu showcasing the best
seasonal produce the ACT has to offer
as well as a stack of healthy dining
options.
We’ve recently enjoyed hosting a
number of private dinner parties,
including Paul West and his River
Cottage Australia team. Inside we
feature the menu created by our
kitchen and inspired by Paul’s cook
book. The three course feast was
paired with wines from local vineyards.
Personally, I have been busy attending
a number of award ceremonies
including the Telstra Business Awards
where BOOKPLATE was a finalist in the
“New Business” category. The Telstra
Awards are a platform for business
owners to take a look at their operation
and have it assessed by experts.
We were also delighted to have
been recognized by the Restaurant
& Catering Industry at their gala
dinner where we won awards in
four categories, including the
prestigious“Cafe of the Year”. The
Awards for Excellence is a nationally
recognised, independently judged
awards program that celebrate the
achievements, exceptional service &
culinary talent in our industry.
I was so pleased to again provide
my support to the Mother’s Day
Classic event. It’s great to see so
many volunteers from the Canberra
community, and of course the
thousands of participants, supporting
this important charity.
In this issue we take you behind the
scenes to meet our baking team – the
best in the business if you ask me!
They’ve been busy working on a High
Tea fit for European Royalty and rightly
featured on our front cover. You can
read more about them on page 14.
Dual Olympian Louise Dobson gives
her tips on how to reinvigorate
your exercise regime as the
weather warms up. While blogger
Jemma Mrdak and boutique owner
Taylor Pitsilos talks Springtime
fashion and what to expect in
Taylor’s pre-loved and vintage
designer clothing store in Braddon.
No sooner than Spring will have
sprung and Summer will be beaming
down on us. We will again be hosting
another chapter of ‘Picnic’ where
alfresco dining as well as after work
Friday drinks will be the order of the
evening. This year ‘Picnic’ will run
from October to March to coincide
with a number of Canberra’s popular
outdoor festivals.
Lastly we have started taking bookings
for Christmas parties and would love
to tailor a menu to suit your private
function.
