Comic Strip Creators
Pairing visual concepts with verbal concepts (dual coding) helps students to learn
and to remember concepts better. Mind mapping is one of the ways to build dual
coding into learning. Another valid way is to use comic strips.
dual coding
Students could literally spend hours creating and adjusting comic strips, as these tools are
so customizable. This is the reason why, for each project, it is important for teachers to be
mindful of learning goals.
For instance:
1) be sure students spend more time working with the content than they do fiddling with
the angle of a character’s arm;
2) have students draft their storyboards on paper and write out the captions before ever
opening up the tool; this will help them focus on the content and may reduce the time
they spend exploring visual options;
3) resist the urge to give significant points for creativity or artistic skill; consider the
standards you want to measure and assess for those.
4) set time limits and deadlines for stages of a project, so students don’t get late.

Layout templates, backgrounds,
customizable images, and other
several ways to add text are tools
that provide everything a student
needs to create digital comic
strips. Moreover, they also offer
innumerable opportunities of
sharing the finished product with
others.
