The coronavirus has messed up all plans in the bonsai community ; most of the events are being cancelled , or postponed until next year .
Luckily it has no grip on the virtual world , so that many bonsai activities have gone online . Because there ' s no clear outlook on the situation next year , one of the big events , ‘ The Trophy ’ in Belgium , has been cancelled . So the organising team decided to go online , which is something never done before . It will take place on the original date : 20-21 February , 2021 . You can expect a mix of demonstrations , traders ’ information , tree discussions , displays of shohin and pots . There will not , however , be an official bonsai contest .
The whole detailed programme is still in the making , the search is on for those who want to show their expertise on pots , tables , kusamono suiseki , the list can be endless . The real time event will be held in 2022 — again in February , on the weekend of the 19-20th .
Quercus suber , Giacomo Pappalardo
seemingly impossible case , as it becomes very possible in the hands of Manuel Germade . This new Spanish talent had his bonsai education at the Urushibata nursery in Shizuoka , Japan . He manages to create a fine bonsai from an unbendable Buxus yamadori , by meticulously altering the tree into an elegant , slender creation . A special thanks to Yannick Kiggen , who sponsored the tree .
Autumn is actually the busiest time of the year , plenty of things to do for your bonsai before winter strikes . Harry Harrington guides you through his time schedule .
Not so native , but feeling very well at ease in warm Florida , is the jade tree , with its elephant skin like trunk and branches . Surprisingly , it seems to be very suitable for bonsai , as Jerome Kellerhals shows us .
Enjoy the read .

Another big event which was planned for next year , the 9th WBC ( World Bonsai Convention ) in Perth , Australia has been re-scheduled to 2022 . The new date will be 13-16 October , 2022 , and so far we know the programme stays the same . So far as the re-scheduling of events is concerned , we will keep you informed if there are other major events changing date or format .
