Extended CDE benefit offering Diabetes is a serious health concern as it affects approximately 4.5 million South Africans. Diabetes type 1 and type 2 as well as Diabetes Insipidus are all included on the list of 26 Prescribed Minimum Benefit conditions that must be covered as stipulated by the Council for Medical Schemes. Our diabetes benefit which is run through the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology (the leading experts on diabetes in South Africa) is designed to aid members with diabetes by: • Educating them on diabetes • Co-ordinating patient care • Giving them access to consultations with diabetes doctors and specialist • Arranging and covering a consultation with a dietician • Covering diabetes blood tests • Managing prescriptions and medicine • Offering CDE diabetes specialist review The benefit is available on BonComprehensive, BonClassic, Standard, BonSave, Primary and BonEssential. It will also be included on BonFit and Standard Select. Introducing ICPS We partnered with Improved Clinical Pathway Services (ICPS) to create a hip and knee replacement programme – available to all members on the Standard Option. ICPS is a group of orthopaedic surgeons that specialise in performing hip and knee replacements. They use a multidisciplinary team dedicated to assist members with rapid and successful recovery, keeping patients as comfortable as possible during the healing period. This programme has been established to help members to take an active part in planning for their recovery for hip or knee surgery as well as ensuring financial peace of mind. The ICPS work according to standardised clinical care pathways. These care pathways have been developed in accordance with evidence-based outcomes to make sure that the quality of the replacement is of the highest standard. ICPS will manage everything from start to finish including: • All hospital costs • Surgeons and anaesthetist fees • Prosthesis (subject to prosthesis benefit) • Physiotherapist (pre-, intra- and post-operative) Seeing clearly with Iso Leso On 1 January 2015, Iso Leso was appointed as our preferred provider for optical benefits. This highlights our aim of partnering with world-class service providers. Iso Leso is owned and run by optometrists, so they are bestpositioned to offer our members superior service and top- notch advice. This growing network has over 900 providers located country-wide who are equipped to provide our members with excellent service. BonCap contact lenses boost We enhanced the optical benefits on BonCap by offering cover for contact lenses. This effectively set us apart from competing products as most network options that cater for lower income segments do not allow for contact lenses under their optical benefits. However, we believe that our members should have the freedom to choose their optical treatment. Something special for students We introduced an income band on BonCap which caters specifically for students. The Student Option allows students under the age of 28 to be main members on their own medical aid. Students are required to provide proof of registration at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa. This membership can be paid for by parents who belong to other plans. Working behind the scenes with co-ordination of care Co-ordination of care aims to improve the quality of healthcare and lower overall health expenditure by bringing various healthcare providers and services together to create an integrated healthcare system.
