Keep your skin healthy
and vibrant
The long-awaited summer holiday is here. All we want is to bask in the sun’s glow, embrace the warm
weather with open arms and give in to whatever joyful things come with this season, including spending a
lot of time outdoors and in the sun. To make sure that you’re taking good care of your skin, here are a few
tips.
Exfoliate your whole body
All those products that are going onto your skin tend to
get clogged in your pores. This happens more frequently
during summer. Also, your dead skin cells tend to settle
and lead to dull or dark patches appearing on the skin,
which is not what you want when you’re slipping into
shorts and tees in summer. So, remember to exfoliate
your whole body at least twice a week to ensure soft,
smooth and summer-ready glowing skin.
Remember your lips
Along with the rest of the body, your lips also need extra
care. Remember to give your lips a good scrubbing to get
rid of dry skin and dead skin cells. Use a lip balm with SPF
to keep your lips from darkening.
Moisturise and protect
Use a moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated in the heat.
Your skin can dry out from heat and exposure to the sun
which is why it is essential to moisturise, especially in
summer.
Keep away from the thick body butters though and opt
for moisturisers in the form of gels and light body creams.
Apply it as soon as you are out of the shower, to lock in
the moisture and then follow it up with some sunscreen.
After-sun skincare
You’ve taken all the care you could have before stepping
out into the sun but what about afterwards? Remember
to apply a cooling balm or some aloe vera gel when you’re
no longer in the sun. It’s best to apply it at night, after
a shower, so that your skin has enough time to recover
while you sleep.
Keep your showers cool
Use the need to cool off as an opportunity to opt for
showers that are not too hot. Washing in water that’s
too hot strips the skin of natural oils, leaving it red, dry
and irritated. This does not mean you should endure
the torture of an ice-cold shower. Just bear in mind
the general rule that, if water is turning your skin red,
it’s too hot. Keep the water cool and use a body lotion
afterwards.
