Meet the 2019 winners
Edward Mothibi
How does it feel to be named the 2019 Comrades
Marathon winner?
It feels amazing and I’m very happy.
Was this something you expected? Was winning
the race your goal?
No. It was never for this year but it was for the near
future.
While you were running, what kept you going?
My family, they were waiting for me at the finish.
Who is your inspiration?
My coach, Dave Adams.
Was this your first Comrades? If no, how many
times have you run it?
No, I ran it once before.
What was your training schedule like?
I train twice a day.
What foods did you eat? Were you on a
specialised diet?
Most of the time I eat chicken and vegetables. It’s not a
special diet.
Would you say the Comrades is one of those races
that people should run once in their lifetime?
Yes.
What has your recovery process been like?
Easy runs, twice or three times a week.
Any tips for someone who is thinking of entering
the race next year?
Train properly to complete the race without struggling.
Will you be coming back?
Yes, I will come back.
