Some of our members
running this year …

Matodzi Mamatsinya
I started running the marathon
in 2013 and never looked back.
In 2016, I had surgery on my right
arm and could not take part in the
race. However, I recovered and got
back to running and I’ve been at it
ever since.
Lowani Rigigisi
I started running the Comrades
Marathon in 2001 and I have 8
medals. 2019 will be my 9th race
and I am aiming to get a green
number by next year 2020 when
I turn 61 years old.

My first Comrades was an up run
in 2017. It is one of the biggest
and most challenging things I’ve
ever taken up. It was not easy but
I was determined. I completed
the race in 11 hours 37 minutes.
It felt great and I’ve never looked
back. As a General Practitioner
(GP), I think it’s important that I
practise what I preach and be an
inspiration to the community by
leading a healthy lifestyle.
I started running in 2015 to lose
weight. Little did I know that I
will fall in love with the sport and
ended up running official races in
2017. The sport has taught me
so many things about myself but
most importantly, it has taught
me to keep pushing forward in
life no matter how tough things
might be. I will be running my first
Comrades Marathon this year and
that's the kind of motivation I will
be taking with me up to the finish
line in Pietermaritzburg.
Velenkosini Mtshali
The 2019 Comrades Marathon
will be my second. I like setting
myself goals that are high and
accomplishing them gives me
huge fulfilment and a sense of
accomplishment. I am also an
advocate for healthy lifestyle.
I will be running my 6th Comrades
Marathon and I am aiming to get
a green number. I enjoy running
as I take my family along with
me whenever I partake in the
race. My family is my number one
supporter. I am also a running
coach. I have coached various
running clubs like Fat Cats and
now I am a coach at various
running clubs around Pretoria
North.
