Tips for running a good race

If you’ re running the Comrades Marathon this year or just enjoy running in general, the success of your race boils down to three key factors: pacing, resting and hydration.
Pace yourself
Adopt a walk-run strategy. While walking, your muscles get a change of movement, your heart rate reduces, your respiration rate drops and your muscles are stretched. It also allows you to have a snack and water.
Set your schedule. Avoid spending too many of the last kilometres walking and losing time; space your walks during the race. For example, if you opt for walks that are 3 minutes long, then the total amount of time spent walking during the race is approximately 27 minutes. In this time, you will easily cover 2 km, which you then don’ t need to run.
