" THE PEOPLE HERE ARE WARM AND FRIENDLY , AND THE POPULATION IS DIVERSE . IT ’ S GREAT TO GET TO MEET SO MANY PEOPLE WHO COME FROM ALL PARTS OF THE U . S ."
“ Every time we visited , I would notice how beautiful the place was ,” she says . “ My friend would always tell us , ‘ All of you guys will end up here !’”
Several years ago , Jocelyn started to get aggressive about her retirement planning . “ I began looking at various properties with my real estate agent , Angela Lutzi Dellatorè ,” she recalls . “ Because I had lived in Tampa , I knew I wanted to stay on the west coast . At first , I thought I could buy somewhere and travel to the surrounding golf courses and local activities . Then I thought about the traffic and time it would take to get to these places . Plus , my friend was urging me to move to Bonita Bay , which ticked all of my boxes : high-rise living , turnkey , golf , and tennis .”
Jocelyn bought property in Bonita Bay ' s Esperia building within Bonita Bay . Bonita Bay incorporates a range of delicate ecosystems , from fresh and saltwater marshes to mangrove stands , hardwood hammocks , a pristine river and creek , and Estero Bay that opens to the Gulf of Mexico . More than 1,400 acres surround Esperia , including 230 acres of lakes , expansive nature preserves , and 12 miles of bicycle and walking paths . “ This year , I will be there from Thanksgiving to May 2021 . First , I will be visiting my daughter who lives in Aspen , Colorado ,” she explains .
The busy executive , who only just retired in May of this year , was initially concerned that she wouldn ’ t know what to do with herself after being used to working 60-hour weeks . “ But Angela assured me not to worry , and she was right ,” she says . Jocelyn admits that she ’ s busier than she could ever imagine . “ In addition to golfing , I ’ ve recently taken up tennis ,” she says . She ’ s also joined a reading club , plays mahjong , and is involved with local organizations like the ACLU , social justice , and the Democratic Party .
What ’ s her typical day like ? “ I get up and take a brisk power walk ,” she explains . “ Then I will either have golf or tennis . After lunch with whichever group I ' ve just played with , I might attend a meeting for one of my civic organizations , or I might read a book by the pool , or I might go boating .” Dinners might include a meal at a friend ’ s home or dining out at the Bonita Bay Club or at one of a variety of local restaurants .
“ I really am enjoying life !” Jocelyn exclaims . “ The people here are warm and friendly , and the population is diverse . It ’ s great to get to meet so many people who come from all parts of the U . S . Everyone has such interesting stories and backgrounds .”
Jocelyn says she couldn ’ t be happier with her decision to buy here and is grateful to Angela for helping her make the decision . Though she will continue to make the commute to Connecticut in the summer months , Jocelyn is looking forward to a long and fruitful life in Bonita Bay .
