Amongst the first of many films being shot aborad and intended for Non-Residential Indians, this film had foregin locations weaved into the story, and switched between the West and India, as these were both things central to the plot. It is in 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list, and is the longest running Hindi film ever, playing even today in a theatre in Mumbai. The pairing of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol was much appreciated, causing them to be paired in numerous films afterwards. The film which included a Eurorail trip that allowed the main characters to fall in love, become so popular that after its release, many people went on trips, hoping to find their respective character from the film, Raj or Simran.
