Primary school for children 6 to 13 years is free. The problem is school attendance is hard to enforce. Secondary education lasts up to and is not required. The attendance for primary schools are about four fifths and at secondary schools about one forth attend school. Most schools are government supported but there are some private schools. Most private schools are religious schools. Literacy rates have climb in recent years about four fifths of adults are literate. The nation has eight state universities and there are some private universities.
Bolivia has a constitutionally free press but during some dictatorship periods it was censored. Almost all cities have a daily newspaper. Some newspaper is distributed by air so the people in more rural areas can get news too. Some newspapers can be read online now and there are a growing number of internet cafes.
