Safe Internet Usage School Campaign

Boldwin International School (www.boldwinschool.com) is one of the first private k12 schools in
Lebanon to adopt a full integration of the tablet computers within its classrooms and in the hands
of its students. The school believes that education in the 21st century has to evolve as all other
sectors have evolved and the role of the school is to prepare students for life as it is now, not the
way it was 30 or 40 years ago. We believe this generation of students are digital natives, they
use digital devices in their daily lives, whether it is a smart phones, tablets, laptops or desktop
computers, and most of these devices are now connected to the internet. We are convinced
that schools should not watch the changes happening in our world without participating in this
change, we as Boldwin International School have chosen to lead this transformation, and be
one of the pioneering schools in moving education from a passive one-way approach to a more
dynamic, modern and interactive approach, and since students of this generation are already
using the internet whether we like it or not, we chose to face up the challenge, and participate in
the above mentioned initiative of promoting safe usage of the internet.

Coming up with ideas to help promote safe internet usage among students

Solution

Students committee was formed from
grades 6, 7 & 8, under the supervision
of Mr. Rabih Yazbeck (IT Department),
Mrs.
Alisar
Namour
(Activities
Coordinator), Ms. Hilda Abdelsamad
(Arts Teacher) and the leadership of
Mr. Naja Faysal (Owner and CEO of
Boldwin School), the following ideas
were executed:
- Student Activism Campaign inside
the school premises to promote safe
internet usage among their colleagues
- A digital presentation prepared and
narrated by grade 8 students
- The third project was a ingenious idea which has risen from an insight that Boldwin School students
are already using the tablets for surfing the internet and other educational assignments, so Grade 6
students thought it is best to design an Ipad or Tablet cover with messages that reminds students of their
responsibility of using the internet wisely and thus the students took part in designing a tablet cover that
reflects the campaign messages yet keeping it look funky and cool.
