3- What is actually happening on the ground, and to what extent teachers are cooperating
in this process?
Some are cooperating amazingly well and taking great initiatives, and some other teachers are
not cooperating. Of course, this process will take some time in training and recruiting motivated
individuals. Our strategy at Boldwin School is to recruit young and tech-savvy teachers to realize
our vision of inspiring and leading change for a better future.
4- Will the integration of ICT, across the curriculum, improve the student’s learning, and
their educational relevance?
We believe that integration ICT will eventually improve student’s academic performance for a
simple fact called “student motivation to learn”. The Advertising Industry learned that the best
way to sell an item to an audience is by speaking the language of that audience, and by making
its messages interactive and entertaining. Why doesn’t education learn from advertising in that
matter? Previously, education was forced in the minds of students by the power of fear from
punishment (physical and verbal), but now, students grow fearless from such practices and
society has rejected them also. Thus, we have to speak students’ language, which is technology,
and we have to make education entertaining and interactive, so it engages students and make
them enjoy learning.
5- What importance do you place on ICT in the curriculum?
According to Wikipedia, a curriculum is the planned interaction of pupils with instructional content,
materials, resources, and processes for evaluating the attainment of educational objectives. Through
reading this definition, we can easily recognize the huge importance of ICT in the “interaction of
pupils with instructional content...etc”. Simply, by looking at pupils’ eyes watching an entertaining
movie, or playing a game on their tablets, or interacting with their friends on Facebook, and seeing
how much excitement and attention they place on technology and technology-related products
and content, we can understand the fascinating possibilities and opportunities we have with using
ICT in education.
6- Can the tablet replace the teacher in the
classroom or compliment his or her work?
Despite the growing need for job creation in
Lebanon and around the world, I do see that
potentially technology can unfortunately at some
point replace the teachers or at least decrease
the number of teachers needed to operate a
school, or maybe potentially schools won’t be
needed as well, since most learning will happen
through home-schooling via the internet.
Although this might sound to some surprising
or depressing, I see vast opportunities with
this advancement of technology and greater
challenge for educators to adapt.
