Malala Yousafzai
October 9 , 2012 , schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen for speaking out on girls rights to be educated . " We know that terrorists are afraid of the power of education ." -Malala
She was only 15 at the time of the accident . Malala stood up for her right to be educated when she was so young . After she had spoken out , a Taliban gunman shot her in the head . After critical care in the local hospital , she survived . So she spoke out more . In the past four years , she has become an outspoken , international symbol for equality and bravery within children and young women . She was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 ( and won ). She now has a book about her continuing struggle for equality called " I am Malala ."
