BOLD Moves
I’m trying to institute more discipline in my life by working out every day. Yes, I could stand to lose some poundage, but my primary goal in exercising daily is to institute a sense of regular discipline. Sometimes the woman in the mirror wants to do what she wants to do, when she wants to do it, without regard to schedules, goals, purpose or other people. “It’s freedom," she says. It’s also stressful when she considers the things that have been left undone while she flitted about.
Why won’t she discipline herself? I don’t know about ‘her’ but I can speak for me: The accountability for discipline is the same kind of accountability needed to meet goals and create a successful business. You don’t trade freedom for discipline; rather you recognize discipline as part of the real price of freedom. We are free to fail; just do what you want to do when you want to do it without regard to schedules, goals, purpose or other people. We are also free to succeed, but that means you have to put in the time, the work and the discipline even when you don’t want to.
Now let me tell you what happened the other day at the gym. I work out in the morning, and before going to walk on the treadmill, I checked the mirror to make sure my bandana was neat. I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I thought to myself (real transparent here), “You’re getting old.” The response I heard from the Spirit inside of me was, “So what are you afraid of?”
That question pointed me to the greatest freedom I’ve known and it’s this: Time is going to pass whether you operate in discipline or waste your time. As time passes, there is knowledge and wisdom you gain that will give you confidence to do GREAT STUFF, or leave what you have learned by the side of the proverbial road. The experiences, information and lessons you have discovered are part of what make you uniquely prepared; ready for what you were created to do. You just have to look at the person in the mirror and decide to respond in courage, not fear.
You are loved,
Michele
