CONTENTS 4 welcome Welcome to the 8th edition of BOLD. Summer has arrived and we couldn’t be more excited as we enter this vibrant time of year, on the back of a fantastic 2017 Carnival of Flowers. There is something wonderful about the summer months as we feel the energy in the region awaken with the warmer weather and longer days. People are planning Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, buying gifts Ten Free Things To Do this Summer for family, meeting up with friends and getting out into our region’s beautiful parks and gardens. For me, this time of year is when I head home to my farm at Millmerran, enjoy some family time, celebrate the holidays and set some goals for the following year. 2017 has been 5 another positive year for the Toowoomba Region and I want to thank the community for sharing their passion for this place we call home. Our list of collective achievements over this past 12 months is long. A few highlights include, the Carnival of Flowers being recognised as one of Australia’s premier events, completing the upgrade of the northern section of Ruthven Street, opening the City Hall Annexe, strengthening our international relationships, and establishing economic assistance grants THRIVE Wellbeing Activities for our smaller communities. 8 Looking forward to the next few months, our region comes alive with summer events including Christmas Carol events, New Years Eve fireworks, school holiday activities and special events for our senior residents.
