Meet our apprentices We are proud to have 27 Apprentices and 31 Trainees working for you in the Toowoomba Region Abdelaziz Chelsea Keele Apprentice Mechanic/ Diesel Fitter Apprentice Mechanic/ Diesel Fitter Apprentice Mechanic/ Diesel Fitter Joined: January, 2017 Joined: January, 2017 Joined: January, 2017 Abdelaziz came to Australia from Sudan with work experience from his home country, looking for an apprenticeship opportunity. After completing a Certificate II in Engineering in Brisbane, Abdelaziz applied for his apprenticeship role here at Council. Chelsea isn’t from a mechanical background but has always had an interest in knowing how to fix things. Keele’s father has worked as a Diesel Fitter for 30 years and inspired her to pick up the tools. Kicking off her career in business, Keele decided it wasn’t for her and decided to apply for an apprenti ceship with Council. His advice for those applying for an apprenticeship is to ‘not give up. Keep knocking on the door and apply for roles as they come up’. ‘I’ve learned so much during my time here at Council. My supervisor is always teaching me different skills. I want to stay at Council, I love it here’. - Abdelaziz She was looking for a mechanic apprenticeship but wanted a diversity of work; not just cars, but heavy plant, trucks and tractors. Her apprenticeship here at Council allows her on-the-job experience with machinery she wouldn’t normally be able to work with. ‘I love that I work on so much. There’s a lot of variety; some days I’m servicing cars and others I’m working on trucks. I love the atmosphere of so many people working together’. - Chelsea On a daily basis, Keele can go from changing mower blades to servicing trucks; there’s always a variety of skills for her to learn. ‘They say if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. I’ve been here for 3 months and it doesn’t feel like work; everyone here is amazing and the variety of work inspires me to keep learning’. - Keele Check out the full video of Abdelaziz, Chelsea and Keele’s apprenticeship experience at www.youtube.com/toowoombaregion For more info on our trainee and apprentice programs, visit www.tr.qld.gov.au/traineeapprentice BOLD. www.tr.qld.gov.au/bold 13
