CONTENTS 4 welcome Welcome to our 14th edition of BOLD. It’s a wonderful time of the year as we move into the festive season and warmer summer months. We’re winding down from another fantastic Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this event. We should all be honoured to host such a world-class festival that showcases our wonderful region. Get some water wisdom This time of year always reminds me why I love Toowoomba Region and why I’m proud to call this place home. We’re very fortunate to live in such a peaceful and prosperous area of the world. As a community, we all contribute to the culture and atmosphere that makes this region such a great place to live. I believe we deserve a collective congratulations as we celebrate the Christmas season. 6 Now is prime time to get out and explore what our region has to offer. In this edition we highlight a new online platform that will help food-lovers share their best dining experiences and find great places to eat around Toowoomba Region. We have also included a bucket list of things to do and places to see around our local area, so make sure you get out and about to make the most of summer! Summer bucket list 8 We have a great variety of activities and events over the next few months. We can look forward to vibrant Christmas celebrations, New Year’s Eve activities, engaging art exhibitions, health and fitness classes and special events for our seniors. For more information on what’s happening around the region, visit www.tr.qld.gov.au/events While we wait for the rain to return it’s important to be water-wise wherever possible. The pages that follow include practical tips to save water in and around the home. I applaud our community for their efforts in using water responsibly and encourage all of us to continue saving water where we can. Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 11 Lastly, I am very proud of the community grants we provide as a Council and the assistance they provide groups around the region. In this edition we highlight a group in Yarraman that has received a community grant to improve the town’s Christmas appeal. I hope you enjoy this edition of BOLD.
