CONTENTS 4 welcome Welcome to Spring in the Toowoomba Region – one of the most exciting times of the year! Our premier event, The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, exhibits the liveliness and extravagance of Spring – where public and private gardens transform into stunning floral showpieces along with the streets and community springing to life with colour and excitement. The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is Australia’s longest running horticultural event which has witnessed a stellar run of industry success, notably winning the Best National Major Festival or Event for the second successive year at the 2017 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Perth. 5 must do's in Millmerran This year, for the first time ever, we'll see the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers’ Petals & Pups program – the Carnival’s first official dog-friendly program completely dedicated to hounds and their humans. This program will see more than 30 dog-friendly activities, 27 off-leash parks and 20 human-and-hound accommodation stays. I encourage all dog lovers to bring their pups along for some festive fun. 9 There has never been a better time to get out and active as we transition into Spring and enjoy some warmer weather. In this edition, we feature several ways in which you can enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle during our Spring season, including weekly Outdoor Gym programs as part of our CHANGE Project and training, facilities and programs at Milne Bay and Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centres. Clifton Country Week 10 Millmerran, my home town, is shaping up for its Camp Oven Festival in October – a weekend of family fun that celebrates Aussie bush heritage. There'll be activities for kids and adults: cooking competitions and demonstrations, arts, crafts, old working machinery and authentic camp oven food. This is an event for the whole family not to be missed. Clifton will share the spotlight in October when the town hosts the 10th annual Clifton Country Week. This event showcases what makes Clifton great - gardens, flowers, art and of course their vibrant farming industry. This is a fantastic event highlighting the beauty, history and flair of one of our rural townships. After a dry Winter, water conservation is top of mind. In this edition of BOLD, we've included water conservation tips for the garden to ensure we’re being mindful of our consumption. Remember, we all have a part to play in ensuring we conserve one of our most precious natural resource. Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers I hope you enjoy this edition of BOLD.
