This lifestyle can lead us to sometimes feel overwhelmed, struggle to focus and experience increased stress managing our daily activities. Meditation has been proven to provide enormous benefits with spending a short amount of time each day to calm your mind, stop your thoughts and allow some silence. Saras encourages people to meditate daily, and coming together once a week for the collective meditation helps to start and maintain a regular meditation practice. ‘At classes we also discuss how to overcome any obstacles people might have to their meditation, how to clear the stress of the day and come back to being in a balanced state,’ advised Saras. We spoke with Saras and Laura from Sahaja Yoga meditation to find out more. Saras has been instructing the free meditation classes as part of the CHANGE project since 2016 and Laura has been an attendee for over 12 months. ‘Coming to meditation has been very informative, educational and very calming when practised daily,’ said Laura. All classes are free and anyone can join the beginner’s class at any time. There are no bookings required. ‘Everyone including children should meditate,’ expressed Laura. Saras advised there is a large body of research finding people who meditate regularly gain improved concentration, reduced levels of anxiety and an overall improved sense of wellbeing. ‘It helps me to see life in a different way. I feel more positive and sleep better,’ Laura said. A more appealing option seems to be to curl up in front of the fire with Netflix. It's time to stop the winter excuses and get on with your fitness routine. Remember, staying active promotes good mental health, controls weight gain and encourages healthy food choices. There are plenty of ways to keep active and warm. Here are a few tips to get you through the next few months. WARM UP Before each winter training session warm up those muscles with a light stretch and gentle movement. The body takes a little longer to get mobile when the weather is cooler. DRESS RIGHT @matt_gregg Moments Worth Living Layering is perfect for winter. Stay warm with a jacket and adjust layers as your workout intensifies. Now is the time you and your buddy need each other most. Keep each other accountable during your winter goals and remember, sometimes the key to winter training is ‘Tough Love’. BUDDY UP GET MOVING It's simple - make the choice to get out of bed or off the couch. 30 mins is all you need. For those gym members attending early morning classes the biggest tip of all is ... wear your gym clothes to BED. That way you'll have no excuses as you won't get cold getting ready! Summer is just around the corner - be ready for it. @valiantbabe Lavender Blue 10 @ananta_vrindavan Stunning Architecture Check out the Autumn / Winter program to keep you on track at www.tr.qld.gov.au/pools @phils_iphonephotos_gregory Toowoomba Railway Station www.tr.qld.gov.au/bold l bold bold l www.tr.qld.gov.au/bold 11
