ith the ever evolving world of the media, we as a society
are constantly relying on new sites, social media, and individuals to keep us up to date on happenings around the world
and in our own backyard. But do we ever question what we are
being told as being the truth or a twisted form of the truth? After
sleepless nights, and countless hours spent researching, we were
able to delve into the history of Boko Haram and analyze the arguments presented. In this magazine you will find out how we
analyzed 11 videos proposing ideas about Boko Haram and what
we discovered and uncovered to be the truth.

oko Haram, a terrorist group founded in Nigeria, is among
the biggest terrorist groups in the world. The limits to the
atrocities that they’ve committed apparently are nonexistent,
from kidnapping innocent schoolgirls to killing government officials and policemen. One of their most infamous deeds was the
kidnapping of the young schoolgirls in Chibok Nigeria on April
4, 2014. Our project focuses on this terrible act, some of the other terrible acts this terrorist group has committed, and how they
were portrayed in the media, as well as finding the truth behind
them. We’ve pulled our sources from various news channels such
as MSNBC, Fox, and satirical news sources like Stephen Colbert
and Jon Stewart. Two speeches, one from the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs and the other given by the
Nigerian president, Muhammadu Burhari, also come into play
in our magazine. All these sources provide a chance for comparison on Boko Haram, and how these sources may have certain
biases depending on their target audience. All of our facts that
we’ve pulled from these sources have been checked through various websites and other sources to make certain of their veracity.
We’ve SMELL tested our sources as well (McManus, 2012, pg.
147) to help us understand what these sources want us to know
in truth.
