“I think finding yourself
makes for a
better You
as a person
and
artist.”
JIZXLE
I started music at the age of
9. I didn’t really know what I
was getting into, my dad just
kind of influenced me to do it.
We were sitting around and he
asked me “You wanna make a
song?” I said yea of course,
and from then I wrote and recorded my first song with my
sisters singing on the hook. I
sold some CDs to my 3rd grade
class & it got a pretty good
response. I treated it like a hobby
not really a career. It wasn’t until 8th grade that I started back
and said “I’m bout to take over
this sh*t.” No album, no song,
nothing. Just friends pushing me
to rap because they said nobody
could touch me. Hip Hop has
definitely allowed me to express
ME. A lot of emotions, happiness, anger, frustration, relationship problems- go into my music.
I try my best to find myself in it
so it can teach me as much as I
teach & relate to my listeners.
My style derives from Alton. That’s
where I got all my experience from.
From where I started to where I
am now.
When you say “the struggle” is
your biggest influence, what do you
mean?
The struggle to me is anything
that’s holding you down or holding you back from reaching a
certain point or height. Alton can
be looked at as that. A struggle.
A place where everyone knows
everyone, a place where no one
makes anything of themselves.
Its depressing. Not that much opportunity so you gotta grind to
get what you want. Its a struggle
trying to get to the next level
when people don’t understand,
but that’s when you go harder and
go further. That same struggle allows me to make different kinds of
music to express how I might feel.
You’ll hear that on the next project.
Why do you believe it’s important for
an artist to find himself? Why is it
important to you?
I think finding yourself makes for
a better You as a person and
artist.
