이에 다른 트위터 사용자 @ AshTheDonLeon 이 “ 지금 이들은 뭐 하나 ? 모두들 뭐 하고 있는지 보 여줘 ” (“ I ’ m wonder where are these girls today ? Show yourselves .”) 라고 트윗을 올리자 , 릴 렉서 모델을 했었던 여성들이 본인들의 근황을 알 리며 답 트윗을 하기 시작했다 .
“ 이제 저 앞머리를 하기엔 너무 커버렸지 .” Dark And Lovely 아역 모델이었던 나탈리도 리트윗을 하며 예전 사진과 함께 근황을 알렸다 .
2000 년대 헤어의 유행은 아프로와 내추럴 헤어 에서 실크처럼 길고 찰랑거리는 헤어로 옮겨 갔 고 , 광고나 미디어에서는 긴 머리카락을 찰랑거리 는 여자가 손가락으로 헤어를 부드럽게 빗는 장면 이 많이 연출이 되었다 . 많은 흑인 여성들이 이런 유행에 따라 헤어스타일을 비슷하게 흉내내기 위 해 자연스럽게 릴렉서를 찾았다 .
하지만 헤어 텍스처를 바꾸기 위해 어린이들을 모 델로 세워 릴렉서에 노출을 시키는 것이 과연 바 람직한 상술이었나 생각해 볼 필요가 있다 . 지금에 와서 회자되는 것이지만 , 어린 여자아이들이 본인 의 헤어가 아름답지 않다고 생각하며 릴렉서를 사 용한 것은 그 당시 아프로헤어가 인정받지 못했으 며 백인들처럼 찰랑대는 헤어가 정답이라는 편견 을 사회가 주입시켰다는 것이 현재의 평가다 .

It started with a tweet posted by a former child model with Twitter handle @ Prettiestluxury who wanted to become a relaxer box model in ‘ 90s : “ I remember wanting to be the face of a hair relaxer so bad .”
Another user @ AshTheDonLeon wrote : “ Where are these girls today ? Show yourselves .” In response , many women who used to be a child model on relaxer boxes shared their current status .
“... taller , blonder but the sass is still the same ,” said Natalie Githu who was on Dark and Lovely Beautiful Beginnings relaxer box .
In 2000s , the hair trend shifted from afro and natural hair to silky and bouncy hair , and the media and TV commercials often portrayed a model handcombing through her smooth and bouncy hair . A lot of women opted for relaxers to wear these trendy styles .
However , it is time to think about if having a child model to encourage the use of relaxers to transform hair texture was appropriate . Although it is hindsight , children who are using relaxers might have been injected with the perception that their natural hair was neither beautiful nor appropriate , telling them straight and bouncy hair were desirable and better .

“ 애틀랜타에서 살 때 엄마랑 잠시 외출했 는데 어떤 사진사가 와서 모델을 해 볼 생 각이 없냐고 물어보더라구 . 엄마한테 항상 릴렉서 박스의 모델을 하고 싶다고 말한 적 이 있어서 , 바로 촬영에 응하기로 했어 . 내 첫 모델 촬영은 Kids Organic 프로젝트였 는데 , 그때 앞니가 빠져 웃으면 예쁘지 않 을 거라고 해서 웃지도 못했어 . 그때 난 5살 이었고 릴렉서를 사용하기에는 아주 어린 나이였어 . 90년대라서 가능했던 일이지 .”
She said , “ I remember telling my mom often I wanted to be on the cover of the boxes like the other little girls . She made it happen . He saw my passion for modeling and put us thru w Kids Organics .” She was not allowed smile because her front teeth were missing at the time . Also , she realizes now that she was too young to use relaxers at her age of 5 . It was only possible in ‘ 90s .
